Michael L. Bleeker, DMD Offers Porcelain Crowns
Crowns are sometimes indicated when a tooth is worn, cracked or has had a root canal. The crown is a covering that encases the size, shape and color of the tooth. The crown will restore a damaged tooth to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular, because they resemble the color your natural teeth. They are highly durable and will last many years. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile. In some cases the size, shape and color are enhanced to make your teeth and smile even more beautiful than before. This is what we call a smile makeover.
Reasons for crowns:
What does getting a crown involve?
A crown procedure usually requires two appointments. Your first appointment will include preparing the tooth or teeth, fabricating a temporary crown and taking the necessary molds to fabricate the permanent restoration.
The tooth is prepared by Dr. Bleeker removing any decay and shaping the surface to the proper shape for the new crown. Once these details are accomplished, a temporary crown will be fabricated and placed with temporary cement. Your bite is checked to ensure you are biting properly.
At your second appointment your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your new crown will be carefully placed to ensure the color, spacing and bite are accurate.
You will be given care instructions and a follow up appointment.
